Baramulla, May 23 (KNO): Syed Shams-U-Din Bukhari, a respected retired Forest Department official and uncle of Syed Basharat, Editor-in-Chief of Kashmir Despatch, passed away on Thursday at his residence in Kreeri, Baramulla, following a brief spell of illness.
He was laid to rest later in the evening amid outpouring of grief and remembrance from the local community.
Bukhari, who was in his late seventies, had earned a reputation for integrity, sincerity, and dedication throughout his career in the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Department. Colleagues and locals alike recall him as an upright officer who rendered his duties with a strong sense of public service and commitment to environmental conservation. His decades-long service left a lasting imprint on the forestry sector in the region.
His death has been widely mourned, not only by family and friends but also by former colleagues, public representatives, and community members who fondly remember his humility and selfless nature.
The Nimaz-e-Jinaza (funeral prayers) was offered at his ancestral graveyard in Kreeri, where a large number of people from different walks of life gathered to pay their final respects.
